Mount Everest Adventure Trek  - 16 Days

No prior trekking experience is required, many first-time trekkers complete EBC successfully every season. What matters more than experience is cardiovascular fitness and preparation. We recommend building up hiking stamina, doing stair or hill training, and taking practice hikes with a loaded daypack in the months before departure.

The trek reaches 5,364m (17,598ft) at Everest Base Camp itself, with the optional Kala Patthar side trip going higher to 5,545m (18,192ft).For comparison, this is well above any peak in the contiguous United States or the Alps. The high altitude is the trek’s primary physical challenge, more so than the walking distance or terrain difficulty.

The itinerary builds in two dedicated acclimatization days at Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286) and Dingboche (4,410m)  following a gradual ascent profile that keeps daily elevation gain within recommended safe limits.

Guides carry pulse oximeters and check oxygen saturation and heart rate daily. If symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS) appear, guides are trained to halt ascent or descend immediately, and helicopter evacuation is arranged for severe cases. Check our full article of Altitude Sickness on EBC.

Most itineraries begin with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region. Note: for the 2026 season, peak-season Lukla flights are being routed through Ramechhap (Manthali) airport rather than Kathmandu, adding a roughly 4-5 hour road transfer before the flight. Check your specific departure dates against our current Ramechhap flight schedule.

Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are the best seasons, offering the most stable weather, clearest mountain views, and safest trail conditions.

Our standard itinerary is 14 days Everest Base Camp Trek , including 12 trekking days and 2 days in Kathmandu.

Everest Base Camp trek packages range from $1,800 to $4,500 per person, with the price varying based on group size, trip duration, and service level.

Included in most packages: TIMS/Khumbu permit, Sagarmatha National Park entry fee, licensed guide and porter, teahouse accommodation, and three meals daily while on trek.

Not included: international flights, Nepal visa fees, travel insurance, personal trekking gear, alcoholic or bottled drinks, WiFi, hot showers, and guide/porter tips. Smaller private groups and shorter itineraries sit toward the lower end of the range; larger service inclusions, luxury lodge upgrades, or add-ons like Kala Patthar and Gokyo Lakes extensions push costs higher. Two permits are required: the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry permit (which replaced the TIMS card for this region). Both are arranged by your trekking agency and checked at entry points along the route.

Essential gear includes layered clothing for temperatures ranging from warm days to well below freezing, a sleeping bag rated to at least -20°C, broken-in waterproof trekking boots, and trekking poles. Check out our EBC Packing list. Most technical gear: down jackets, sleeping bags, poles can be rented affordably in Kathmandu or Namche Bazaar if you’d rather not buy or fly with it.

Yes, paid WiFi (via Everest Link cards, purchased at teahouses) is available along most of the route, and NTC/Ncell mobile signal covers much of the lower Khumbu. Connectivity gets weaker and more expensive at higher elevations, and can be unreliable near Everest Base Camp itself. We recommend not depending on constant connectivity above Dingboche.

Teahouses offer basic private twin rooms, shared squat or Western-style toilets, and hot showers for a small extra fee, with amenities becoming more basic at higher altitudes. Meals are simple but substantial: dal bhat, noodle soups, momos, and basic Western options are available at nearly every stop. Rooms are unheated except for a shared dining area with a stove in the evenings.

Yes, solo trekkers and women trek this route safely every season, and joining a guided group is the most common way to do so. Guides and porters from the region are professionally trained, and teahouse owners along the trail are accustomed to hosting solo travelers of all backgrounds.

Adding Kala Patthar gives you a direct, close-up sunrise view of Mount Everest’s summit, something Base Camp itself doesn’t offer, since Everest isn’t visible from EBC.

Kala Patthar (5,545m) is a short, steep pre-dawn climb typically done from Gorak Shep, the last stop before Base Camp. Most trekkers consider it well worth the extra effort for the classic Everest photo.

EBC is higher, colder, longer, and more expensive, while Annapurna Base Camp is lower-altitude, greener, and generally considered easier and more accessible.

Choose EBC if proximity to the world’s highest peak and Sherpa culture is the priority; choose ABC for a shorter, less extreme, and typically less expensive Himalayan trekking experience.
