An epic journey from Kathmandu to the Mount Everest base camp

On Everest Base Camp Trek-16 days we experience astounding mountain views, get glimpses of the life of the world famous mountain climbers (the Sherpas), enter Sagarmatha National Park, a world heritage site and tour high altitude Buddhist monasteries. Among several others, Tengboche monastery has a religious significance to the Buddhists. A night or two in Namche Bazaar allows proper acclimatization for a comfortable hiking experience.

Trekking to the Everest Base Camp of Nepal also provides us an opportunity to embark on an epic journey that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set off to in 1953. Our Sherpa will guide us to the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain, Everest on an adventurous trek package that also includes climbing Kala Patthar to admire the panoramic views of Everest and other Himalayas.

Nothing beats the thrill and sense of accomplishment that grips hikers on seeing the power and grace of the mighty mountain up close.

overlay
  • Embark on a thrilling flight with scenic views from Kathmandu to Lukla
  • Visit the antique Tengboche Monastery at 3,870 meters
  • Walk to the foothills of the world’s highest mountain Everest at 5364 meters
  • Savor the panoramic views of the Himalayas including Everest from Kala Patthar

Is the Everest Base Camp trek appropriate for me?

The 16-day Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary is designed for beginner trekkers who are in good health with average physical fitness. The ample distance covered between daily itineraries, steady gain of altitude and separate rest days ensures that we are properly acclimatized to fully enjoy our trek to the Everest base camp. Walking at high altitude trails with proper acclimatization and steady pace will help avoid getting the altitude sickness

But, if you wish to take up a bigger challenge offered by our agency, Himalayan Glacier and walk along the rugged trails, then Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes – 18 Days would be ideal. Another option for experienced trekkers with limited time would be Everest Base Camp Short Trek – 14 Days.

Mount kilimanjaro I just completed the Mount kilimanjaro climb organized by Himalayan Glacier. I was supported by a fantastic guide Fromance. He ensured my safety and took me on several additional walks at the various huts where we stayed. We had fun and very interesting adventures. The rest of the team included a fantastic chef, Yona, who created spectacular dishes including a celebratory cake for us after finishing the climb. I would highly recommend anyone considering this climb to go with Himalayan Glacier

The trip of a lifetime! This was such an incredible experience! It is so difficult to describe just how majestic and breathtaking the Himalayas really are. Every single day of the trek I found myself humbled by the scale and beauty of the mountains. Himalayan Glacier absolutely outdid themselves in terms of providing us with a trek that was organised, safe, fun, and most importantly, successful in making it up to Everest Base Camp! Our guide Homnath was friendly and knowledgeable, and our porter Bhakta was such a gentle and kind man. They both helped make our trip so easy and special. I'm so so pleased that I booked this trek through this company. I think it's really important to support the local community by using a guide and Himalayan Glacier provides a comprehensive end-to-end package that gave me total peace of mind through the entire trip (from landing in Kathmandu to leaving to go back to London).

3 Passes Trek with EBC Had an amazing time trekking with Himalayan Glacier and especially my guide Ashish. The service was excellent and far exceeded expectations. Really, it was more than I could have ever imagined from start to finish. Everyone I met with and talked to at Himalayan Glacier were so kind and friendly and answered all my questions and provided great feedback about other parts of Nepal also. If you're thinking about trekking in Nepal I would highly recommend using Himalayan Glacier

Khopra Ridge - fabulous trek! Trekking to Khopra Ridge was an amazing experience! It is a little off the beaten path, which we appreciated. Not crowded at all. We felt like we had the mountains to ourselves. The trek was hard, make no mistake. But we expected that, and were delighted to challenge ourselves...and make it! We had the very best guide in all of Nepal: Pradip. He was young (30) but very experienced. He started over a decade ago with Himalayan Glacier as a porter, and is an accomplished, professional guide. He spoke excellent English and his knowledge of the terrain, culture, mountains, flowers, trees...was exhaustive. We also had the very best porter in all Nepal: Arjun. Retired from the Nepal Army, he had travelled many of places as a UN peacekeeper. He had an infectious smile and was such a great encouragement. Slow, slow, you can do it! We chose Himalayan Glacier very deliberately. We wanted a Nepalese owned company. Everyone at HG was super. They arranged every detail and everything went smoothly, from airport pick up to departure. We would both recommend Himalayan Glacier. If you want a great Nepal experience, with a Nepalese company, they are the company for you! Thank you Pradip. Thank you Arjun. Thank you HG. Hope to return and see you all again. Grace and Abbey

An awesome experience The beautiful scenery, people and culture of Nepal and the Himalayas made this trip one of the best that I have done, and I have travelled abroad a number of times. Spending time exploring the mountain villages and being amongst the locals going about their normal business was a delightful experience and the memories are now etched in my mind. The tour company, Himalayan Glacier, made the trip so easy and trouble free. From airport pick to drop off at the end of the trip I did not have to worry about a thing. The flight to Lukla, all accommodation and meals during the treck were arranged for me so I could could simply enjoy the treck in a hassle free environment. I had a large menu to chose from at all places and the food was delicious, especially the Sherpa vegetable soup. I'm planning to go back and do the Everest Base Camp treck next year with Himalayan Glacier. I strongly recommend planning to stay in Kathmandu for a few extra days after the treck in case of inclement weather delaying the flight out of Lukla. I was lucky and caught my scheduled flight but quite a few people were delayed for 1 day and 2 days as safety is paramount.

Wonderful Nepal Adventure We had a group of 5 and wanted to spend 3 weeks exploring Nepal. They designed a route that fit what we wanted to do! Than after reaching EBC, which was our big goal, Suresh our guide was able to change our plans at our request! We had wanted to do Gokyo Valley but decided to slow down and get away from the popular areas. We visited some less traveled trails with amazing views! They took super good care of us all the time.

Excellent Guide and Safe This was my first time being above 5000 metres and multiple day hike for more than 3 days. I am not that fit :p. Our guide, Ganga (Man) Bahadur Tamang ensure that we are all safe. He was joyful and full of encouragement, and really keen to make his client successful in the climbing. We all made it to the base camp and no one get sick. Man ensures all of our food and drinks are clean by entering the kitchen himself. We have the best porter too, Jiban. He assisted carrying my day bag too to help in the Chola Pass and Everest Section when he saw I am struggling. Both Man and Jiban go far and beyond to make us comfortable, enjoy the trip, and safe. "Mera Peak and Amphu Lumbcha Pass We did Mera Peak and Amphu Lumbcha pass October 2019 with help of Himalayan Glacier trekking company. From the beginning of planning to the very end of this adventure I couldn't be happier. People from this company are truly doing everything to make sure you are getting what you want and you leave with best possible experience. They are really professional at what they doing. My trip was tailor made according to my time frame and a budget. Communication and planning was like a talking to long time friend. Cant say enough thank you to Rayuna and Ashmii for planning and taking care of logistics in the office. At the trekking itself we had two best possible guides, Sherpa Ongchhu and Sherpa Saila, who were making sure we are safe and have the best possible experience in the mountains. This company is always doing extra step, like surprising me with a birthday cake, which sometimes means a lot, especially when you'e far away from home. Thank You Ashmii for that. And of course big Thank you to the owner of this company Mr. Sagar. He was realy doing for me much more then he should. He makes me feel like I'm part of his family, like a brother. Thank You again. Bottom line this company learn it's reputation and it is highly recommended. I've been working with them several times and I will work with them again on my next adventure.

Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek Our group of five had an amazing time hiking to EBC! The Luxury Lodge option is definitely worth it as we slept in comfortable beds (sometimes with heating pads) and took hot showers almost daily. The meals provided were tasty, had a wide variety and large quantities. Both accommodations and food exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful to our guide and assistant guide - Shankar and Bhakta as well as 3 porters. They were professional, patient, had great communication and our guides were literally there for us every step of the way. Shankar even brought extra goodies for us like cookies and fresh fruit... and surprised us with cakes for my birthday and a wedding anniversary! We couldn’t have asked for a better crew. I would highly recommend booking with Himalayan Glacier for treks and tours in Nepal. Nepal will forever hold a special place in our hearts as my boyfriend proposed to me at EBC! Thank you HGTA for a memorable experience!

Nepal and Bhutan Tour Thank you to Himalayan Glacier wonderful staff and guides for an amazing experience !!! Everyone was very welcoming and helpful . The tours in Kathmandu were so insightful and I experienced a new culture and people . I learned so much along the journey , but the best is always getting to know our faraway neighbors !! The food was great, all the hotels were very nice . As a shopper who loves collecting regional crafts , Kathmandu was simply an amazing place to gather things to bring home and enjoy. Arriving in Bhutan we were warmly greeted by Norbu and Tenzing who gave us an amazing tour of Bhutan! Before our journey began we got to have dinner with departing guests and we all laughed , ate and enjoyed great conversation!! Paul and Debra. PS get a Nepal Visa beforehand if possible!!

Food on Everest Base Camp Trek

All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests. While on trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the tea-houses/lodges we spend the night and lunch on our way to the next destination. Nepalese, Tibetan, the more common continental and Indian cuisines are common choices in the menu.

To get an idea about your meals on the go, breakfast comprises a hot beverage, toasts, pancakes, eggs, etc. while lunch will include rice items, noodles, potato varieties, pizza, pasta, burger, meat items, and so on. The starters in dinnertime are soup varieties while the main course includes more or less similar items as that of lunch menu, including a dessert item and a hot beverage. For detailed list of food items served during the entire trip, please visit our food on a teahouse trekking segment.

Note: Trekkers who strictly follow vegetarian or vegan diet must inform us during the time of booking their trip with us. We recommend you to avoid any alcoholic beverages during the trip. Also, we advise you to avoid meat items because meat has to be carried all the way from Lukla or Namche for several days before it is consumed. So, there is more possibility of staleness, just enough to upset your tummy!

Accommodation During Everest Base Camp Trek

We will be accommodated in  Yatri Suites & Spa or Similar in Kathmandu; and standard lodges during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request with an extra cost.

Himalayan Glacier will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. Here’s all you need to know about the food and accommodation on a teahouse trekking

everest base camp packing list - duffel bag

What to pack on the Everest base camp trek?

Everest base camp trek is a lodge-to-lodge trek. It is also known as a teahouse trek. It means that you will not be required to sleep in camping tents and most of the facilities like laundry, food, etc. are easily available throughout the trek. However, you need to carry some of the most essential items that you will personally require during the trek. As Everest base camp trek is considered quite challenging, we recommend packing only the necessary gears and required equipment. Make sure that you don’t over-pack, and at the same time don’t under-pack.

In order to enjoy the trip rather than worry about the weight of your load, you need to pack light only with the essentials. Read the complete Everest base camp trek packing list and pack smart and light for a more comfortable and a fulfilling trip to the base camp.

FAQs

Everest Base Camp trek is a moderate/demanding trek that does not require any technical expertise of mountaineering. It is basically a long hike up to the altitude of 5,364 meters / 17,599 feet. The trek is only grueling because of its duration of 12 days hike up and down the hill across diverse terrains (14 days including arrival and departure).

The best time to trek Everest Base Camp is the months of spring (March-May) and fall (October- November) when the weather is favorable and perfect for high altitude climbing. These seasons offer a crystal-clear mountain view with a clear sky. It is also possible to do this trek in February and early September but the trek is best preferred during the above months.

Best company to travel with while in Nepal.

We booked our Everest Base camp hike with Himalayan Glacier agency as recommended by one of our close friends who had traveled with them few years back. We had a nice time and were paid back for every dime that we spent. Experienced guide with a cheerful smile made it even more easier at some of the difficult portions on the trail. We will recommend you to our friends who wish to travel to Nepal. Thank you guys!

Although we were quite intimidated and excited at the same time, we finally decided to book our trip to Everest base camp with Himalayan Glacier company who promised us the best experience and indeed they did not fail to do so. Sleeping in the mountains wasn't as bad as we expected but the food was something new and exciting for us. Our guide did his best to keep us motivated and stopped for us whenever we asked to. Thanks a lot for giving us a wonderful experience and making our dream come true.
