Everest Day celebrated with huge success in New Zealand

Everest Day has been celebrated in Western Springs Garden Community Hall in presence of Everest Summiteers Mr. Peter Hillary, Mike Allsop and Peter Cammell in New Zealand.

According to a statement, members of parliament Phil Goeff and Kamal Jit Bakshi were among the distinguished guests in the program.

Welcoming all the guests and participants Vice-President of Non Resident Nepali Association, Rebat Basnet highlighted the importance of Everest Day in strengthening the relationship between Nepal and New Zealand.

Founder President Baburaja Maharjan stressed the importance of the monuments of Sir Edmund Hillary along with Tenzing Sherpa in Auckland where Sir Edmund Hillary was born. Mr Maharjan also expressed gratitude to Sir Edmund Hillary for his help, patronage and advises since 1995 till his last breathe.

Everest Summiteer Peter Hillary, son of Sir Edmund Hillary, remembered contribution of his father. He also suggested Nepali planners to promote mountaineering tourism by lifting all the royalties and taxes. Royalties and taxes are definitely not supporting to increase tourism. Mr Hillary gave an example of New Zealand saying that it doesn’t impose any taxes or royalties to the mountaineers; therefore mountaineering tourism is rising day by day.

Everest Summiteers Mike Allsop and Peter Cammell expressed their happiness to be on the summit and to participate in Everest Day Celebration.

National Coordinator Tez Bhattarai read the message from the Ambassador HE Rudra Kumar Nepal, Embassy of Nepal, Australia and Vice-President Kamal Waiba presented the message from Sir Ray Avery, Patron of NRNA New Zealand. At the program,NRNA ICC Member Loknath Paudyal was also there to celebrate the Everest day.

President of NRNA New Zealand Chakra Thapa expressed sincere thanks to all summiteers, MPs, sponsors, participants and colleagues for their active participation to make EVEREST DAY a grand success.

The program was hosted by Mrs. Binu Karmacharya Shrestha and organized by Non Resident Nepali Association New Zealand.
