Frequently Asked Questions

The Classic Ladakh Tour is a 12-day guided journey through Delhi, Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri, with pricing provided on request. Cost varies by season, group size, and hotel category, so confirmed rates are quoted directly by Himalayan Glacier’s travel team.

The price includes domestic Delhi-Leh-Delhi flights, 5-star hotels in Delhi and Leh, eco-friendly cottages in the high-altitude regions, private transport, and permits.

The Classic Ladakh Tour is graded Light to Moderate, involving long scenic drives over high mountain passes rather than demanding trekking. Most of the challenge comes from altitude and lengthy travel days, not physical exertion, making it accessible to reasonably fit travelers.

A built-in acclimatization day in Leh helps the body adjust before crossing higher passes like Khardung La.

The best time to visit Ladakh is May through September, when Khardung La, Chang La, and the roads to Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri are open and weather is stable. Outside this window, high passes can close due to snow.

Even in summer, nights at Pangong and Tso Moriri drop close to freezing, so warm layers are essential. Read our full guide on Best Time to Visit Ladakh.

The Classic Ladakh Tour runs 12 days from arrival in Delhi to final departure, including two days in Delhi, an acclimatization day in Leh, and excursions to Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri before returning to Leh and Delhi.

The itinerary is fixed but can be shortened, extended, or customized with add-on experiences on request.

Yes, the Classic Ladakh Tour is suitable for beginners, families, and senior travelers in good general health, since it is primarily a vehicle-based sightseeing tour rather than a trek. Following altitude guidelines during the Leh acclimatization day is the main precaution.

No prior trekking or high-altitude experience is required, though a basic fitness level makes long driving days more comfortable.

The highest point on the Classic Ladakh Tour is Khardung La Pass at 5,578m (18,301ft), crossed while driving from Leh to Nubra Valley. Pangong Lake sits at 4,420m (14,502ft) and Tso Moriri at 4,522m (14,837ft).

These are among the highest motorable roads in the world, so altitude sickness precautions apply throughout the tour.

Yes, inner-line permits are required to enter Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri since these areas lie near India’s border regions. Himalayan Glacier arranges all permit paperwork on the traveler’s behalf as part of the trip cost.

Travelers only need to provide passport and visa details in advance; no separate application is required from the client.

Altitude sickness is managed on the Classic Ladakh Tour through a dedicated acclimatization day in Leh (3,520m) before ascending higher, along with staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol early on, and pacing the first day of activity gently.

Guides monitor travelers closely at Pangong and Tso Moriri, the two highest overnight stops on the route.

The signature highlight of the Classic Ladakh Tour is the drive over Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads on earth, followed by the turquoise waters of Pangong Lake and a camel ride on Hunder’s sand dunes in Nubra Valley.

Sunrise at Pangong Lake and the nomadic Changpa community at Tso Moriri round out the tour’s signature experiences.

The Classic Ladakh Tour uses 5-star hotels in Delhi and Leh, with comfortable eco-friendly cottages or well-rated lodges in Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri. Rooms are on a twin-sharing basis with private rooms available for a supplement.

Accommodation in the remote lake regions is simpler than in Leh, reflecting the limited infrastructure at high altitude.

Daily breakfast is included throughout the Classic Ladakh Tour, along with a farewell dinner hosted by Himalayan Glacier on the final night in Delhi. Lunches and most dinners are at travelers’ own expense, giving flexibility to sample local Ladakhi and Tibetan-influenced cuisine.

Hotels and camps in remote areas typically offer a mix of Indian, Tibetan, and continental options.

Turtuk village is not included in the standard 12-day Classic Ladakh Tour itinerary, but it can be added as an optional excursion from Nubra Valley for travelers interested in this Baltistani border village. Ask Himalayan Glacier to customize the itinerary.

Turtuk is known for its stone houses, apricot orchards, and distinct culture near the India-Pakistan border.

The Classic Ladakh Tour (12 days) covers Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri with a comfort focused itinerary, while the Ladakh Extended Tour (14 days) adds Alchi, Kargil, and Zanskar’s Padum region for travelers wanting deeper cultural and geographic reach.

Choose the Classic tour for a slightly shorter trip with premium stays, or the Extended tour for more remote Zanskar exposure.

Yes, Classic Ladakh Tour departures are guaranteed once booked, even if the group size is small, so travelers can commit to their travel dates with confidence. This removes the risk of a trip being cancelled due to low bookings.

Guaranteed departures are a standard feature across Himalayan Glacier’s scheduled group tours.
