The Annapurna Sunrise Trek, also known as Ghandruk Poon Hill Trek in Nepal, is a relatively easy hike meandering through ethnic villages and rhododendron forests. This invigorating trek showcases some of the best views of Annapurna and the neighboring Himalayas especially from the vantage point of the high hill. The added presence of rice terraces completes the picture making Poon Hill a photographer’s paradise. The trek begins with sightseeing of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Then, we take a flight to Pokhara and drive to Naya Pul, the trailhead. We then trek to the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk and enjoy the ethnic hospitality along with the cultural magnificence of Gurung Museum. Trekking through the rhododendron forests that bloom with red flowers during the springtime, descending down to Birethanti, and passing by waterfalls and a few small villages and settlements will be a thrilling experience. We walk further back to Naya Pul and then drive to Pokhara which marks the end of this marvelous trek.
The 9-day Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking itinerary of the Annapurna region short trek is designed for trekkers who are looking for a less demanding, yet short and beautiful trek, especially with their family and kids in the rural mountainside with up-close Himalayan views. However, if you wish to do a longer trek in the Annapurna region while also reaching its base camp, then Annapurna Sanctuary trek – 14 Days would be the best option. For trekkers who prefer a more demanding trek with the whole Annapurna circuit to cover in about two weeks’ time, Annapurna Circle Trek – 17 Days would be perfect. Again, for trekkers willing to undertake a more demanding trek in and near the Annapurna region, please choose Annapurna Circuit Trek – 21 Days.

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
We will be staying in Yatri Suites & Spa or similar in Kathmandu, Mt. Kailash Resort in Pokhara and the best available teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 265. Himalayan Glacier will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, Pokhara and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

Glad I have made the right choice to tour with Himalayan Glaciers for Annapurna Sunrise Trek. It was an amazing hike through Nepali flat (not actually flat!), local villages, teahouses and beautiful forest with the ultimate goal to reach Poon Hill in time for the sunrise at Annapurna Range. View of the sunrise is just stunning beyond word and certainly worth the effort to go on this tour. On top of that, trek has been fun and informative and certainly pleased and grateful to have Tour Guide Jaya and wonderful team of porters including Mama and Ram with us. Once again, thank you, Himalayan Glaciers including Naba and Pramesh for the whole arrangement. As I write this review, I feel like going back to Poon Hill and I miss Dal Bhat. -:)
Show moreHimalayan Glacier made my 6 weeks trip in Nepal unforgettable!Â
Once arrived in Kathmandu I booked with them on spot several treks as well as sightseeing and paragliding trips.Â
Mr. Naba (the executive Manager) helped me further with all my inquiries and established a personal program for the whole 6 weeks.Â
My Guide Sudarshon for the 3 treks (Annapurna Base Camp, Langtang and Gosaikunda) was awesome. No words can describe his professionalism during all the treks. He always gave me the best service available in the mountains (f.e best lodges & tea houses etc) and he always carried about me and looked very well after me. I always had the possibility the personalize the trek day by day corresponding to my fitness.Â
I absolutely and very highly recommend HGT and of course I will book again with them for the next trek!
HGT does an amazing job facilitating and organizing trips of all kinds. They're a very personal tour company and from the moment you walk in, you get the feeling that you're taken care of. The staff is all spectacularly warm (I was invited to join them to lunch when I first walked in) and beyond willing to assist with whatever you need. Naba in particular was very helpful in making a trip that catered to my specific desires and needs. I plan to tell anyone who's going to Nepal to reach out to this great company, even if they just need help figuring out the options about what to do. A+++
