Annapurna Base Camp Trek  - 11 Days

Experience the glorious trek to Annapurna Base Camp, one of Nepal’s classic short treks among spectacular high peaks, reaching an altitude of 4130m/13549ft!

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) is one of the most popular trekking experiences in Nepal. It is an amazing walk through a diverse landscape and culture, complete with stunning mountain vistas, terraced fields, quaint Gurung villages, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Mt. Annapurna (8091m) is the 10th highest mountain in the world, and the hike to its base camp, which sits at an altitude of 4130m/13549ft, is one of the best treks in Nepal. Moreover, we reach our destination via Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), which is revered by the Nepalese for its unique beauty. Thanks to the well-groomed itinerary of the Annapurna Base Camp trekking package, it is a popular choice among diverse outdoor enthusiasts, from solo female travelers to hikers traveling in groups in Nepal.

Our Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary comprises 11 days, which is shorter compared to most treks in this region leading up to the base camp. This particular route is designed for globetrotters who wish to hike to the base camp of the spectacular mountain but are limited by time. For travelers who want to experience more trekking in Nepal in a relaxed manner, they can try a different route like the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek – 14 Days, which would be a better option.

Why to choose Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

  • Scenic Landscapes: Trek through lush green forests to alpine meadows, terraced fields, and panoramic mountain vistas.
  • Himalayan Panorama: Majestic views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South,  and Machapuchare.
  • Sunrise: Spectacular sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
  • Cultural Encounters: Unique culture of Gurung communities in Ghandruk and visit the ghandruk museum.
  • Hot Springs: Natural Hot Springs at Jhinu Danda is perfect for relaxing and soaking in therapeutic hot water.
  • Varied Terrain: Diverse terrain, including suspension bridges, rhododendron forests, steep ascents, and descents.
  • Annapurna Sanctuary: Witness 360-degree panoramic views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiuchuli, and many more.

Annapurna Base Camp 4,130m / 13,551ft

Today, we climb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp, we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna, which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears on our way to ABC and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From the base camp, we again get to savor mesmerizing views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight in Annapurna Base Camp.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Review

Frequently Asked Questions

The ABC Trek is rated Moderate. No technical climbing skills are required, but trekkers should expect 5-8 hours of walking per day over stone steps, suspension bridges, and steep ascents/descents.

It’s considered easier than the Everest Base Camp Trek, lower maximum altitude, shorter itinerary, and more oxygen at lower elevations through forested terrain. Good general fitness (not technical mountaineering skill) is what matters most

Himalayan Glacier’s standard itinerary is 11 days, covering roughly 115 km (71 miles) round trip, with 10-20 km of walking per day.

The highest point is Annapurna Base Camp itself at 4,130 m (13,549 ft), significantly lower than Everest Base Camp (5,364 m). Because the trek stays under 4,200 m/13,779 ft, the risk and severity of altitude sickness is considerably lower than on higher treks, though AMS can still occur above 3,000 m/9,842 ft, which the trail crosses around day 5-6.

Yes. ABC is widely considered one of Nepal’s most beginner-friendly high-altitude treks, thanks to its lower elevation, well-marked trail, and frequent teahouses.

With 4-6 weeks of aerobic preparation (hiking, stairs, cardio) beforehand, first-time trekkers routinely complete it successfully.

You need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. Both are typically arranged by the trekking operator in Kathmandu or Pokhara before departure; independent trekkers can also obtain them directly.

You stay in teahouses/lodges the entire trek, no tents needed. Rooms are twin-shared with shared or attached bathrooms depending on altitude.
Rooms are generally clean and simple, with electric blankets where available at higher elevations; hot showers are usually available for a small fee.

March-May (spring) and September-November (autumn) are the best seasons, offering clear mountain views and stable weather. Spring brings blooming rhododendron forests; autumn has the most reliable visibility. Winter is colder but doable at lower crowds; monsoon season (June-August) brings rain and leech-heavy trails.

ABC is shorter, lower, and easier than EBC. It takes about 11 days and reaches 4,130 m/13,594 ft, while EBC takes 12+ days and reaches 5,364 m/17,598 ft. This makes ABC a good option for trekkers with limited time or those who want a lower risk of altitude sickness.

EBC involves a mountain flight to Lukla and more demanding acclimatization; ABC is road-accessible from Pokhara and has more forested, lower-altitude walking.

Pack a 3-layer clothing system (base, insulating mid-layer, waterproof shell), sturdy trekking boots, poles, a warm sleeping bag, and a 30-40L daypack.
No specialized mountaineering gear is required. A detailed packing checklist is available on our packing list page.

Yes, natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda are a highlight of the standard itinerary, typically visited on the return leg. It’s a short 15-20 minute walk downhill from the village, and a popular spot to soothe sore legs after reaching base camp.

Yes, ABC is one of the most popular treks in Nepal for solo and female travelers, thanks to its well-trafficked trail, frequent teahouses, and lower altitude risk.

Guided departures also allow solo travelers to join small groups, and the route rarely feels remote compared to higher, less-trafficked treks.
