TAAN to explore Humla

KATHMANDU: A seven-member team of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has headed for Nepalgunj Wednesday to explore new trekking routes in Humla.

The group led by second vice president of TAAN Rana Bahadur Khadka, includes a videographer, report writer, photographer and cartographer. Further, a 19-member group will provide logistics support to the team.

The team will fly to Simikot airstrip from Nepalgunj and begin the trek to Hilsa — a town along the Nepal-China border.

“It will enter Mugu district and return to Nepalgunj via Talcha airstrip,” according to TAAN. The trip is expected to accomplish its task in 23 days.

“We are exploring new side trails for the Great Himalaya Trail,” said the vice president, adding that they will explore and recommend a new trekking itinerary for the Humla-Mugu region. “We will also prepare map of the area plus a documentary to promote the area.”

The trip is managed by TAAN in association with the Great Himalaya Trail Development Program under SNV Nepal. TAAN has been organizing a series of such exploration trips in recent years. Last year, it explored Lumba-Sumba area in the Kanchanjunga region, Lower Manaslu in the Manaslu region, and Dolpo in the mid-western region.
