Nepal started its inoculation drive with the Indian COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021. In the first phase, frontline healthcare workers, emergency service workers, and the elderly were vaccinated. While in the second phase, a few additions have been made to that list.
In the second phase, Nepal started its inoculation drive with the Chinese COVID- 19 vaccine ‘Vero Cell’ from 4th April 2021. In the latter phase, the vaccine has been used not just for frontline health workers, but also for staffs from the tourism sector, hotel, advertisement, and internet providers. The new addition has been made to ensure safe travel for tourists in Nepal.
Following the new provision, our staff members at Himalayan Glacier, including our climbers, leaders, Sherpa guides, and porters, also received the COVID – 19 vaccine.
For the second phase of vaccination, Nepal received 800,000 doses of COVID -19 Vero Cell vaccine on 29th March 2021. The Chinese COVID – 19 vaccine is manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products (BIBP). It was approved for emergency use against COVID -19 in Nepal on 17th February 2021.
Nepal government has apportioned 14 vaccination booths at various hospitals and health care centers.
