The Love Lyrics of Tsangyang Gyatso Cultural Tourism Festival will be held in Cona County in Shannan Prefecture in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region from September 15-19, 2013, introducing the folk customs of the Moinba ethnic minority group.
Visitors can visit the old house of Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama, and find out more about the life, clothing, architecture and folk customs of the Moinba ethnic minority group.
Tsangyang Gyatso was a Buddhist icon who wrote romantic poems about Buddhism and love that are still popular today. They have been quoted in novels, other poems and movies. He was born in a Moinba family in Cona County in 1683.
The Moinba ethnic minority group is scattered in the southern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the smallest ethnic minorities in China. The Moinbas believe in Lamaism and share similar customs and lifestyles with Tibetans. They also use the Tibetan calendar. The Moinbas have composed many beautiful tunes and ballads over the centuries. Some of their most popular songs are the ‘Sama’ wine song and ‘Jialu’ love song.
Cona means ‘front of the lake’ in the Tibetan language. Cona County is home to the largest population of Moinbas.
The first Love Lyrics of Tsangyang Gyatso Cultural Tourism Festival was held in May 2012.
