The Rainbow Mountain tour is one of Peru’s most picturesque natural wonders and takes you to Vinicunca, popularly known as Rainbow Mountain, near Cusco, Peru. Popular for its colorful layers of red, yellow, and turquoise caused by the mineral’s composition, Rainbow Mountain is perched at an altitude of 5,036 m (16,522 ft). Further, the hike usually involves a scenic drive from Cusco and passes through the scenic Andean countryside.

Along the way, you can also enjoy the local wildlife and traditional Andean culture. The trek to Rainbow Mountain offers a memorable experience featuring panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and high-altitude landscapes. To enhance your journey and explore additional stunning Inca trails, hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu provides a magical and unforgettable experience.

Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Hike

Our adventure to the stunning Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain begins with a hotel pickup between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. We will drive through beautiful valleys and farming areas for 2 hours until we arrive in Cusipata town, at 3,329 m /12,772 ft. The 2-hour hike starts in Phuluwasipata, guiding you to the magnificent Rainbow Mountain at 5,020 m (16,470 ft). Here, we will enjoy a 30-minute break to rest and have snacks before descending for 1.5 hours back to Phuluwasipata, where our transportation will be ready. 

After the trek, we’ll enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Cusipata before heading back to Cusco in a private van. You can expect to return to your hotel between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. On this final day, we’ll conclude our journey with a farewell dinner with our guide.
