Mera Peak Summit with Ski Descent  - 16 Days

Nepal’s Highest Trekking Peak Ski Adventure

Mera Peak is widely regarded as Nepal’s highest trekking peak, offering climbers stunning 360° Himalayan panoramas that include Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Himalayan Glacier Adventures is proud to introduce the first accessible 16-day Climb & Ski Expedition on Mera Peak — a groundbreaking program that combines classic trekking, non-technical climbing, and a thrilling guided ski descent from the upper slopes after summiting.

While elite ski descents from the world’s highest peaks (like Everest) have long been reserved for extreme mountaineers, Himalayan Glacier is pioneering this iconic experience for intermediate climbers and skiers with prior high-altitude experience. This unique adventure transforms a classic peak climb into a true ski-mountaineering journey, delivering breathtaking views and an unforgettable finale on snow.

Perfect for adventurous skiers and climbers seeking a rewarding, less extreme Himalayan ski experience — with expert Sherpa guidance, full acclimatization, and all necessary climbing gear provided (except personal ski equipment and suits).

Mera Peak Summit and Ski Descent highlights

Nepal’s Highest Trekking Peak (6,476m): Stand atop Mera Peak and experience one of the most achievable yet rewarding high-altitude summits in the Himalayas.

Endless Himalayan Snow Peaks: Uninterrupted views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga from the summit ridge.

At Khare, we spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude and preparing for the climb. Our guides lead a short acclimatization hike to nearby ridges to help our bodies adjust. Day 11
Khare to Mera High Camp
Mera High Camp 5,780m / 18,964ft

We leave Khare after an early breakfast and begin our gradual ascent toward Mera High Camp.

In normal conditions, this section does not require crampons or ropes, but fresh snow can hide ice, hard-packed snow, and crevasses, especially on the upper glacier above Khare. Crampons provide traction and stability, reducing the risk of slipping on steep or exposed sections.

Our guides carefully choose the safest route and maintain a steady pace as the terrain becomes more exposed near the final section. After hours of climbing with incredible Himalayan views, we reach Mera High Camp, set on a high ridge above the glacier, where we rest and prepare for the summit push.

Day 12
Mera High Camp to Summit and Ski Descent
Mera Peak 6,461m / 21,199ft

We start our summit day very early, usually before dawn, climbing steadily over snow and gentle glacier terrain toward the top of Mera Peak. Depending on snow and ice conditions, crampons may be used to ensure safe footing as our guides set a steady pace in the thin air. After several hours, we reach the summit and enjoy incredible views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other Himalayan giants. Following summit celebrations, we ski down carefully, with the descent fully dependent on snow conditions, visibility, and crevasse safety, before returning to High Camp or continuing down to Khare as conditions allow.

It allows flexibility in case the summit push needs to be postponed for safety reasons. However, if the trip goes smoothly, this day will not be required and we can use this day to rest and recover in Khare.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best season to summit Mera Peak and attempt a ski descent is autumn (September–November), when weather conditions are generally stable, skies are clear, and snow coverage on the upper slopes is reliable for skiing. Spring (March–May) is another good option, offering workable snow conditions with slightly warmer temperatures.
Skiing from the summit is weather and snow conditions dependent. Safety always comes first, and the guide decides whether skiing is possible.
Mera Peak is a non-technical trekking peak, but skiing from the summit adds challenge. Good fitness, stamina, and comfort on snow are required, with the descent depending on snow and weather conditions under guide supervision.
Yes, prior ski touring experience is highly recommended. The essential requirements for this expedition are:
  • Strong off-piste skiing ability.
  • Confidence skiing in variable snow conditions
  • The capability to ski down steep slopes, either solo or within a group.
Please note: While we provide a climbing guide for the ascent, a dedicated ski guide is not provided for the descent from the summit of Mera Peak back to Base Camp. Therefore, each participant must be a proficient and self-sufficient skier for the downhill sections.
These are generally provided by Himalayan Glacier if needed, but are only required if there is fresh snow or icy conditions above Khare.
Yes, Himalayan Glacier offers flexible options for private groups, additional sightseeing, or adjusted trekking days.
Twin-sharing lodges and tea houses along the trek, 3-star hotels in Kathmandu, and private tents at Mera High Camp. Single supplements are available for city stays.
Altitude sickness can occur above 4,000 m, including on Mera Peak. Our itinerary includes gradual acclimatization, pre-climb training, and experienced guides monitor everyone closely to minimize risks and ensure safe trekking.
