Places of Interest in Bhutan

Dochu La Pass

Colorful prayer flags flutter at the top of this pass where 108 Chortens were built in honor of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King, and his people for their victory against militants in southern Bhutan in 2003.   It is also an ideal location to take photographs of the distant, and majestic Himalayan Mountains. Leave time to take in this unforgettable site and to absorb the prayerful experience meditatively.

Archery Match

Do not miss experiencing the national sport of archery.   Archers now play with both traditional and modern bows.  Targets are 140 feet apart, making it a challenge for even the most experienced players.   When a player hits the target, his fellow team members sing and dance.

Bhutanese Dancers

Inquire with your travel agent if you will be in Bhutan during one of the many festivals or Tsechua.  People-watching is almost as entertaining as the dancers themselves, given the beauty of the kiras for women and ghos for men which are brought out for special occasions.

Architecture

Bhutan’s breathtaking architecture has been preserved as a vital part of the local landscape and heritage. Though some of the building materials may have changed, the general appearance has remained the same over centuries.
