Chinese tourists are the second largest foreign travelers in Nepal in the last three years. Tourism Ministry’s statistics show Nepal welcomed 85,832 Chinese tourists last year. This trend of Chinese tourist began with the government stepping up efforts to attract Chinese and Indian tourists to Nepal since 2010.
Fueled by air links between the two nations, the Chinese tourist arrival is expected to keep growing with the economic rise in middle class in China. Further, travel trade entrepreneurs in Nepal believe that the future unveils the massive potentialities of Chinese visitors in Nepal with the upcoming economic boom in China. Otherwise, Nepal used to depend on tourist from European continent.
Hotels, restaurants and tour operators in Nepal are stepping up efforts to entice big-spending from Chinese visitors. Basically, Chinese visitors’ favorite places in Nepal are Kathmandu, Pokhara, Jomsom, Muktinath and Lumbini where they make huge spending. Unlike their favorite destination, they are showing fascination towards soft sporting adventure like trekking, paragliding, and rafting in Nepal.
Realizing the potential from the new Chinese arrivals, Nepalese government plans to ease visa procedures.
