Trip Introduction

We begin our tour of the wonders of Nepal by taking elephant back safaris, canoeing down the Rapti River and other jungle activities. Next, we travel to Lumbini and visit the Mayadevi temple which is built on the exact place where the Buddha was born. In Pokhara, enjoy boating in Fewa Lake and visit the lake city's several natural and cultural landmarks. On our 10-day Wonders of Nepal trip we also soak in the amazing sunrise and sunset views from Nagarkot and Sarangkot and end our trip with visits to the impressive World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Katmandu (1,300 m/4,264ft)
Upon our arrival in Kathmandu, Himalayan Glacier will arrange to pick us up from the airport. We will then be transferred to our hotel. During the late afternoon, we can take a rest at our hotel room. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Glacier. For dinner, you will be served excellent Nepalese cuisine which will introduce you to the country's food culture. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Drive to Chitwan (815 m/2,674 ft): 5-6 hours
Today we take an early morning breakfast and drive to Chitwan located 175 kilometers from Kathmandu. We descend down along the winding road on the banks of the Trishuli River. After checking in to the hotel, there will be a briefing on the activities we will be engaged in during our stay in Chitwan. We then walk on the banks of the Rapti River to enjoy the sunset in the sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan. In the evening, we enjoy dinner along with a brief cultural program showcasing the tribal dances unique to the Chitwan region of Nepal.

Day 03: Jungle activities in Chitwan National Park
Early in the morning, we will be mounted on elephants for a jungle safari through dense grasslands to witness wildlife in its natural habitat. After breakfast, we visit the elephant stables and even enjoy bathing the elephants. During the afternoon we can drive through the jungles followed by a canoe ride down the Rapti River. While canoeing, we may get a close look at the Gharial and Mugger crocodiles along with fresh water dolphins, otters and varieties of water birds. Or, we may even go for bird watching or nature walks and come closer to a variety of wild flora and fauna found in the park. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 04: Drive to Lumbini (the birthplace of the Lord Buddha), city sightseeing: 2 hours
We start early and drive to Lumbini, a legendary place where one of history’s greatest and most revered figure, Siddhartha Gautam (Buddha) was born. The holy site of Lumbini, also enlisted within the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, holds immense archaeological and religious importance. It comprises of ruins of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bodhi Tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Ashok Pillar (erected by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC on the spot of Buddha’s birth which also bears the oldest inscription of Nepal) and the Maya Devi temple. Maya Devi temple is the spiritual heart of Lumbini which marks the spot where Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautam. From early morning to early evening, pilgrims from various countries perform chanting and meditation at the site. We also visit the museum, peace pagoda and spend your day exploring the area and its temples, monuments and ancient sites soaking up the serene ambience. From there you drive about 29km west of Lumbini, and reach Tilaurakot, the historical site of Kapilavastu, where Siddhartha Gautam spent the first 29 years of his life. The site sits in a peaceful meadow on the banks of the Banganga River. The shrine nearby with several carved pachyderms is dedicated to Maya Devi. There’s a small museum at the final turn-off to Tilaurakot that displays some of the artefacts found at the site. After you’ve visited the place, you drive back to Lumbini. Overnight in Lumbini.

Day 05: Drive to Pokhara, boating in Fewa Lake
Upon our arrival in Pokhara, the beautiful lake city, we are rewarded with magnificent views of the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,794ft), Manaslu (8,156m/26,759ft), Machhapuchhre (6,993m/22,943ft), the five peaks of Annapurna and others. We check-in to our hotel and take a rest. We may also stroll in the streets of Pokhara and enjoy boating in the serine waters of Fewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 06: Sunrise views, Pokhara sightseeing: Davis Falls, Shiva Cave, IMM, Tibetan refugee camp
Early in the morning we leave for Sarangkot, a hill that overlooks the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in the north and Pokhara city in the south. From here, we catch amazing views of the sun as it rises in the mighty Himalayas. We then head back to Pokhara and continue touring the city’s landmarks. Davis Falls is a unique waterfall that flows directly into a narrow and deep canal which has no end. The Shiva Cave is located near Davis Fall and houses a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, a primary Hindu God. We also do some boating in Phewa Lake, the largest lake in Pokhara and visit Bindyabasini Temple located at the center of the Lake. We visit the famous International Mountain Museum (IMM) that records, documents and chronicles the past and present development of mountaineering activities in the world and the Himalayas in particular. We also tour the Tibetan refugee camp and witness how the refugees keep themselves busy by producing and trading woolen carpets and other handicraft items. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 07: Drive to Nagarkot, sunset views
After breakfast, we say goodbye to the beautiful northern skyline of Pokhara and drive towards Nagarkot, a village in Bhaktapur which sits at 7,200 ft and boasts stunning Himalayan vistas. From Nagarkot, we enjoy excellent sunset views amidst the Himalayas. Overnight in Nagarkot.

Day 08: Sunrise views, Bhaktapur and Patan sightseeing, drive to Kathmandu
We enjoy sunrise from the mighty Himalayas before leaving for the city square of Bhaktapur, an irresistible city with an authentic local lifestyle preserved over centuries of isolation from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. While in the city square, we get to admire the Nyata-Pola Temple, the Golden Gate, water spouts and the 55 Window Palace which merge together to provide an ambience of a magical outdoor theater to its visitors. We also immerse ourselves in the authentic delicacy of the locals in Bhaktapur. Next, we visit Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases rich ancient arts and architecture of the valley. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 09: Kathmandu sightseeing: World Heritage Sites
After breakfast, we begin our sightseeing tour by visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites within Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square showcases Nepalese art and architecture at its best. The architecture is typical of the Malla dynasty who ruled over Nepal from the 12th to the 18th century. Swayambhunath Temple is popular among the foreigners as the Monkey Temple owing to the large monkey population residing in the area. Pashupatinath Temple is situated on the banks of river Bagmati and is one of the principal temples of Lord Shiva. The Bauddhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in South Asia which is built on the ancient trade route to Tibet. In the evening there will be a farewell dinner hosted by Himalayan Glacier.

Day 10: Final departure
Our adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! A representative from Himalayan Glacier will take us to the airport approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight.

Important Note

Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with Himalayan Glacier. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

Travel Insurance

It is a condition upon joining any of Himalayan Glacier's trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please note that we don't arrange or sell insurance.


We will be accommodated in Hotel Moonlight in Kathmandu, Hotel Lumbini Garden in Lumbini, Green Park Chitwan in Chitwan and Mt. Kailash Resort in Pokhara. All accommodations are on a twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 450.


Breakfast will be served in Kathmandu, Lumbini and Pokhara. All meals will be served in Chitwan. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners hosted by Himalayan Glacier.

Best Time to Travel

Autumn (Sept. to Dec.) and spring (March to May) are the best seasons for this trip when the weather is clear and pleasant.
