Adventure of a Lifetime: Everest Base Camp Trek - A Journey to the Foot of Mount Everest!

Everest Base Camp Short Trek takes us to the backyard of the world famous Sherpas, their faith in Buddhism, Namche Bazaar, the Sagarmatha National Park, the mightiest viewpoint of Kala Patthar and the Everest Base Camp itself. Mount Everest base camp trekking takes us to Tengboche Monastery which is the highest monastery in the Khumbu region of Nepal and come close to four of the world’s six tallest peaks: Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, and Cho-Oyu. We begin our hike to the Everest base camp with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla equipped with all necessary permits and trekking gears.

Our 14-day trek to Everest base camp is a great option for travelers who are pressed for time and are looking forward to almost similar amenities under the cost inclusion section as the 16-day trek. Hikers who are physically fit, in good health, and have a little experience with high altitude walks can sign up for this trip. But, if you are a novice trekker who is in good health and average physical fitness, and if you wish to enjoy easy trek then Everest View Trek – 12 Days might be right for you. For more experienced hikers who wish to take up more challenge and “”stay off the beaten path”, then Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes – 18 Days would be an ideal choice.

Additional Note

Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We also organize Helicopter rescue in such conditions, if it is available and upon request by our clients. The helicopter charges around USD 3500 and it can lift 4-5 persons per flight. Still, we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra buffer days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have a few days of your buffer days left then you may even engage yourself in optional activities which can be arranged by Himalayan Glacier upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for your original preferred trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund, if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner of your choice will be provided during the trek. While in Kathmandu, breakfast will be provided, allowing you to start your day with a satisfying meal before exploring the vibrant city.As a special touch, we've curated welcome and farewell dinners for our guests.

Accommodation

We will be staying in   Yatri Suites & Spa or similar in Kathmandu and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 425. Himalayan Glacier will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

Experience Required

Mount Everest Base Camp Trek is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light rucksack. In some days we might even need to walk for 7 to 8 hours. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude and strong determination, we can accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Himalayan Glacier before booking the trek. We also recommend that you consult your doctor(s) before the trip.

Acclimatization

This trek's itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up at higher altitudes too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to result in death. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. For example, at an altitude above of 5000m, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Therefore, our body needs many days to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. During this trip, we take rest in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude.

Team Composition

For this trek there will be one leader, assistant leader (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and Sherpa porters for carrying luggage (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that should anybody in the group get sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the trek for groups of any size but we after years of experience we have found a maximum of twelve people to be the optimum size for a successful trip. However, if you'd like to book this trip for a larger group then that can be arranged too.

Equipment and Packing List

Trekking in the Everest region will be an extremely fun-filled adventure when you know exactly what gears and equipment are significantly necessary.  Have a quick glimpse on a complete packing list for Everest base camp trek and savor your experience of a lifetime.

Leader and Staff Arrangment

The most significant thing that makes this trek, enjoyable and memorable is the skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful leader(s) and the crew members with the ability of operating our days on the mountain smoothly. Our trip will be led by the best and most professional leaders. All of Himalayan Glacier’s leaders are carefully selected on the basis of their appropriate experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. With an objective of sustaining local communities, Himalayan glacier only employs local staff who have adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, and history of their local region(s). The trek and expedition leaders have undergone the following trainings:

  • Intensive Wilderness First Aid
  • Trekking Guide Training
  • Eco Trekking Workshop and Adventure Meet
  • English Language
  • Conservation and Biodiversity
  • Rock climbing, Ice Climbing and Mountaineering (for expedition leaders)

To meet Himalayan Glacier’s team, check out the Guide Profile Page.

FAQs

The short Everest Base Camp trek is a moderate/demanding trek that does not require any technical expertise of mountaineering. It is basically a long hike up to the altitude of 5,364 meters / 17,599 feet. The trek is only grueling because of its duration of 12 days hike up and down the hill across diverse terrains (14 days including arrival and departure).
The best time to trek Everest Base Camp is the months of spring (March-May) and fall (October- November) when the weather is favorable and perfect for high altitude climbing. These seasons offer a crystal-clear mountain view with a clear sky. It is also possible to do this trek in February and early September but the trek is best preferred during the above months.
Absolutely yes! Under normal circumstances, our booked trips are guaranteed to run. You will still be doing your trek even if other trekkers cancel their trip. This is the reason why Himalayan Glacier is different from other agencies, who usually cancel their whole trip a month or even a week before the trip date. We are a tailor-made company and the number of participants does not stop our operation. If your trip has been canceled by your operator and you are in a last-minute stress, remember to find us to sort out your trip decisions. Please feel free to book your stress-free holidays with us. Unless there is a situation which is out of control such as a political riot, natural disaster, pandemic, epidemic or weather catastrophes, our trips are 100% guaranteed to run.
You will be led by our highly experienced and dedicated Everest trek leaders, who have years of experience visiting the Everest base camp multiple times. All our guides are full-time employees, not freelancers, and are local experts fluent in English. They possess extensive knowledge of the mountain, its people, culture, health, hygiene, and, most importantly, your safety.
Himalayan Glacier offers a lifetime deposit policy which allows you the flexibility to transfer your deposit to anyone or any other trip. If you wish to cancel your booked trips, certain cancelation charges apply. Please visit our booking terms and conditions for detailed information.
Everest Base Camp trek is a lodge-to-lodge trek. Unlike the Kilimanjaro climb, you will not be sleeping in tents but at teahouses or lodges. Although it may not be as cold an experience as in Kilimanjaro but again, you need to be prepared with the right clothes. Please visit our comprehensive Clothing packing lists for Everest Base Camp trek.
