The misery of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25 was shared the most by Rasuwa followed by other parts of Nepal. Consequently, Rasuwa was declared a red-alert zone by the Nepal government instantly. The disaster claimed over 8,000 lives and affected 8 million people. Langtang Valley alone lost 400 lives, flooded away by an earthquake-triggered avalanche, destroying an entire village and infrastructures. The district is still suffering and needs support from all sides, especially to re-maintain its position as one of the most famous trekking destinations in Nepal.
One of the most affected aspects in the Langtang Valley is education. During our field assessment, we found all but one school currently in operation in the area. The locals are not yet ready to reconstruct schools and send their children in upper parts of the valley due to fear. Mixing an unforgettable trekking experience with good deeds, we have come up with an amazing itinerary that will not only provide trekkers with pure Himalayan adventure, but also an opportunity to be a part of change. Here's what we are trying to do:
Shree Nepal Rastriya Primary School is located in the lower part of Khangjim-VDC. This is the only existing school from lower to upper Langtang route, as all the other schools were completely destroyed by the April 2015 earthquake. The school runs classes for 1st to 5th grade students, who are a total of 46 students. They have only one building (one storey) with 4 rooms including the office. The building has cracks as a result of the earthquake. The school is in need of serious public attention and ideas of renovation. It is currently equipped with only 5 teachers.ACTIVITIES
If you are someone who believes helping others is the best way to travel, this trip is for you. We donate 100 US $ from every trip we sell to the school management committee. We also offer volunteers opportunities to extend their support in the field. You can get involved in the following activities in the school for 2 days:
We will leave for Langtang Valley Trek after spending some days in the school. Be with us as we ascend the pine forests, rocky dunes, Yak meadows and the mighty Kyanjin-Ri (Langtang View). The Sherpa culture starts to make more sense as we climb, with occasional encounters with donkeys, horses, Yaks, wild boars, pheasants and the vegetation inside one of the most popular National Park area of the country. The Valley has wide range of vegetation, wildlife, glaciers, local culture and fresh air for us as we walk by.WHY TRAVEL WITH US?
We are a leading travel and tour company working in the Tourism Sector for more than 24 years. We are also a socially committed organization and are involved in social initiations for keeping the environment clean and internalizing zero waste policy. We are allied with The International Ecotourism Society and Leave No Trace. We were one of the first travel companies to reach out in earthquake affected zones with volunteering and relief distribution.
After breakfast, we will be greeted by our guide and taken to the bus station. From there we will take a bus to Syarbu Besi (Rasuwa District). A road-trip will go around hills all the way to our destination, providing breathtaking landscape views of neighboring hills and vegetations. Some of the buses play movies during the trip, which helps if you understand the language. Otherwise, just plug in your iPod, or simply enjoy the view outside your window. We stop for lunch and take short breaks on our way to Syabru Besi. Enjoy hot shower in our hotel and call it a night - Overnight in Syarbu Besi.
Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with Himalayan Glacier. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
We will accommodate in 2 Star hotels in Kathmandu. Syarbu Besi has comfortable hotels with facilities of big menu, comfortable hotels, and hot shower. During the trek and while volunteering, we will be accommodating in local tea houses. (Accommodation services will be simpler and more basic as we ascend).
For Volunteering, we will have a staff to ensure all guidelines with the school where we will work. You will be briefed beforehand about the activities you will be doing. Himalayan Glacier will stay in continuous communication with the school before and during your stay in Khangjim Village.

Himalayan Glacier's Langtang Valley Trek with 2 days Volunteering is moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have ability to walk at least 6-8 hours a day with a light day pack. Volunteering with require interest and ability to work for 7-8 hours every day but the working hours can be increased or decreased on mutual consent.
Walking in higher altitude is physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have positive attitude, self confidence and strong determination, we can accomplish this Trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior of the trip is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is vital to consult with our doctor before we decide to go. Participants with preexisting medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood disease should inform Himalayan Glacier before booking the trek.Volunteering, on the other hand is possible with or without prior experience. The only things it demands are high level of interest and commitment to work with flexibility.
