Overnight in Paro.
We hike to Bhutan’s most cherished landmark today which is the Taktsang Monastery also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. It is located at a rather intriguing location, on the edge of a steep cliff above the Paro Valley. The monastery along with the entire landscape is sure to get us excited. Additionally, we can also stay here until the evening to get some spectacular photographs of the sunset. Overnight in Paro.
Today we can indulge ourselves in photographing Bhutan’s top landmarks beginning with Rinpung Dzong in Paro. While there, we also learn about the dzong’s fascinating history. Rinpung Dzong is beautiful with wooden galleries lining the courtyard along with fine wall paintings that illustrate Buddhist lore. We walk for a while before beginning our drive to Thimphu. After reaching Thimphu, we tour the Memorial Chorten which was built in memory of the third King of Bhutan who reigned from 1952-1972. We also visit Tashichhodzong and the huge Buddha Statue at Kuenselphodrang. The Buddha statue overlooks the entire Thimphu valley providing us with yet another opportunity to take great pictures. Overnight in Thimphu.
After breakfast, we enjoy a scenic drive to Punakha with a short stop at Dochu La Pass (3150m). From the pass we get magnificent views of the Himalayas. We continue our drive downhill through rhododendron, fir and hemlock forests. Later we hike through rice paddies to the Chimi Lhakhang Temple. This temple is dedicated to a 14th century sage known as Drukpa Kuenley, or the "Divine Madman”. After touring the temple and taking the much anticipated photographs, we continue to Punakha. After lunch, we visit the Punakha dzong beautifully located in the middle of two rivers. Overnight in Punakha.
We return to Paro via Dochu La pass and tour the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang on the way. The temple is one of a kind in the country with elaborate paintings depicting the lineage of the present monarchy and their visionary works. We also stop at Thimphu for lunch before continuing our drive to Paro. Overnight in Paro.
Today will be the second time on this trip that we visit the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This time we reach the monastery very early in morning. This gives us the opportunity to capture plenty of photographs of the beautiful scenery. After spending some time at the monastery we travel back to Paro. Overnight in Paro.
We meet a Himalayan Glacier representative in our hotel after breakfast. He or she will then drop us off at the airport.
