Trip Introduction

The Mardi Himal Trek is an ideal choice for those of us who are looking for an ‘off the beaten path’ trekking experience in the quieter parts of the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is the lowest and perhaps the least visited of the trekking peaks in Nepal.  While trekking on this route, leading up to Mardi Himal base camp and finally the high camp, we get to appreciate the solitary trails complete with verdant forests, interesting villages, valleys, terraced farms, dazzling rivers and the extraordinary views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Hiunchuli mountains. Another benefit about this trekking route is that the trail makes a small circuit up to the base camp of Mardi Himal so that we don’t have to backtrack over the same terrain.

In conclusion, Mardi Himal trek is a short trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal where we stay in teahouses (lodges), try local food, appreciate the excellent hill and mountain landscape; and marvel at the panoramic views of the massive Himalayan mountains including Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Hiunchuli and Mardi Himal.

Accommodations

We will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara and teahouses during the trek. We will stay at Hotel Moonlight in Kathmandu and Mt. Kailash Resort in Pokhara. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 290. Himalayan Glacier will book the best available teahouses during the trek but understand that the trails of Mardi Himal Trek are not as frequented by tourists as the Annapurna and Everest regions. Therefore, the guesthouse facilities will be very basic. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and Pokhara but it might be difficult to find them during the trek.

Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be provided from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be provided on the way to the next destination. All meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner, will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

This is an easy trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk for around 4-5 hours a day with a light day-pack. Exercising and jogging regularly for a few weeks prior to the trip is good idea to enhance strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Himalayan Glacier before booking the trek. We also recommend that you consult your doctor(s) before the trip.

Best Time to Travel

Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and Spring (March to May) are the best seasons for the Mardi Himal Trek. The weather is sunny and warm with outstanding views. If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature then taking this trip during winter (Dec., Jan. and Feb.) could also be an option. However, the temperature during winter could be harsh for most guests. Trekking in the Summer or Monsoon seasons (June to Aug.) will be affected by rain but the Summer trek could be a boon for a keen botanist.
