Two Russians missing in Langtang

Kathmandu: Two Russian tourists in a group of four, who were heading for Panch Pokhari located in Sindhupalchowk from Langtang Tilman Pass, have been missing for the last two days. The other two were rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter on Thursday.

Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been trying to rescue the missing tourists. According to the police, the two missing are Sergey Hcurcin, 52, and his wife Galina Chhukin. Though all four had begun trekking from the same point, the two missing had left the others behind. The two rescued by the Nepal Army are Kirill Semenon, 45 and Alexey Belugin, 44.

The four are learnt to have reached Langtang on April 27.

DSP Sudeep Giri of District Police Office, Rasuwa said the army helicopter flew the two to Kathmandu. They were admitted to CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center, Lainchaur and were discharged after treatment.

The trekking route is located at an altitude of 5,000 meters and is considered perilous, said DSP Giri. “We have been facing difficulties in rescuing the other two due to bad weather conditions,” said Giri, adding that a five-member police team has been deployed to the area to search for the missing tourists.

“One prefers to trek along the route with oxygen cylinders, but they seem to have travelled without one,” said Giri. “They have either lost their way or are suffering from health problems. We have been making attempts to establish contact with them.”

A Belgian woman was found dead and an American woman had gone missing along the same route three years ago.
