Tourism fraternity observes World Environment Day

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) together with various travel trade associations jointly organized a clean-up and tree plantation programme to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5. This year’s slogan for the World Environment Day celebration was ‘Your Planet Needs You, Unite to Combat Climate Change’.

Tourism entrepreneurs, representatives of trekking agencies, conservationists, students, media persons and local community actively participated in the ceremony. Over 500 saplings were planted in the 1.5 km stretch on the banks of Bishnumati River near Shovabhagwati temple. They also cleaned the Bishnumati River. Nepal Mountaineering Association will manage the area.

Speaking on the occasion, various speakers underlined the need to preserve our fragile environment from the threat of pollution and impacts of global warming. They also requested all concerned to take immediate initiatives in protecting our environment.
