Well, I will have to say my first experience in Nepal caught me by surprise! In anticipation for the trip, all I wanted was not to get altitude sickness and that I end up with a good tour group.
Fast forward 3 weeks and I can honestly say that for the first time in many years I woke up!
The incredible scenery, the amazing culture, the most hospitable people all had left me with a feeling this place has a kind of ‘magic’ about it!
I couldn’t have asked for a funkier bunch of guys in my trekking group than Steve and Pasha! We shared so many great experiences and plenty of frivolities along the way. It was the running joke, “A Canadian, a Ukrainian and an Aussie walk into the bar!”…well, in fact, it was our tour group! (we did, however, find a bar or two to walk into on our travels??)
We also met so many people from so many different parts of the world along the way. Everyone had such fascinating stories to tell.
But the most important factor in making this experience so memorable was HGT. They made everything run so smoothly and nothing was ever a problem. In fact, if there was some kind of problem they went out of their way to make sure it didn’t affect your experience and got things sorted out immediately.
I cannot speak highly enough of Bam Mangar our tour guide. Bam quite simply was the ultimate professional. He committed 100% towards us and made sure we have always looked after. Bam was highly experienced and knowledgeable with the history and culture of the EBC trail. Bam was also the butt of many of our jokes and gave as good back to us!
As for altitude sickness, due to the well planned itinerary and the wise eye of Bam, we all managed to achieve our ultimate dream and get to EBC without any major hiccups.
I have traveled to many parts of the world and met so many amazing people, and I would have to say my trek to Everest Base Camp, and all that went with the tour would have to rate as one of the best experiences of my life!
I can’t wait to return to Nepal one day and will certainly be looking up HGT to organize my next Nepalese experience!
