Thapa wins Turkish Airlines Everest Golf


Retd Lt Gen KNS Thapa bagged the Turkish Airlines Everest Golf Cup here at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Playing with 13 handicap, Thapa scored 41 points to lift the title and receive a business class return air ticket of Kathmandu-Istanbul.

Tashi Dong scored 34 points to win the best gross. Dong also received the same prize given to nett winner Thapa. Dong also bagged most birdies award with 3 birdies on count back. SSP Rajendra Shrestha scored 40 points to finish runner-up in the nett category on count back after he was tied with Sameer Acharya. Shrestha played 18 on the front nine and 22 on the back nine. Acharya scored 23 on the front nine and 17 on the back nine.

Lobsang Tashi was the gross category runner-up with 32 points. Puspa Rai won the ladies title with 38 points while Dr Rita Thapa finished second with 31. Tenzing Palden was junior winner, he scored 41 points. His nearest competitor Aditi Ghimire scored 38.

Min Bahadur Raut prevailed in the seniors above 60 years category scoring 38 points. Capt Norbu Sherpa bagged longest drive and Mahendra Mainali won the closest to the pin award.

In all 97 players had participated in the tournament sponsored by the Turkish Airlines. The event was played on a stableford format with 7/8 handicap.
