From USA to Everest Base Camp

November 26, 2009

My friend, Kim, and I traveled to Nepal in October 2009 to venture on an experience of a lifetime to Everest Base Camp.  Kim found the Himalayan Glacier Trekking website online and we were both impressed with the competitive prices, years of experience and professionalism they offered.  Being two single girls arriving at the Katmandu airport we were instantly grateful to find our guide, KP, waiting patiently for our arrival.  From that moment on we were cared for by the most generous and kind people we came across on our six weeks of travel, and perhaps in our lifetime.  Our well being and every need was meet along the way.  KP (our leader ), Dil (our porter) and Naba (our office manager extraordinaire) felt like extended family by the end of our amazing adventure.  Not a day goes by that we don’t think about the great experience we had while we were there.  There are no words to describe the beauty and majesticness that the mountains in Nepal hold.  We are beyond grateful to Himalayan Glacier Trekking for their hospitality and great service and would highly recommend them to everyone and anyone!

Everest Region Trek 2009 – Jim Marx

April 20, 2009

While visiting my son Nick in Vietnam in November, I took a side trip for a 15 day trek in the Everest region of Nepal.  I flew to Kathmandu, and on to Lukla to begin the trek.  I hiked for 7 days to reach elevations over 5,000 meters or 16,000 feet.  For the next five days I hiked around those elevations to the Everest Base camp, Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters or 18, 188 feet, over the Cho La Pass, and up Gokyo Ri.  From Gokyo Ri there is a spectacular view of four of the world’s six highest mountains including a great view of Mt. Everest.  The last three days were spent hiking back down to Lukla for a flight back to Kathmandu.  It was a great experience that I highly recommend.

Mr Kamal writes after back to Sydney

February 26, 2009

Mr Kamal & Ms Gayathri are back home safe, Gayathri was rescued from Dingboche in Helicopter as she had food poisiting.

We are back in Sydney. Back to our boring routine. Gayathri moved to a hostel near her campus and we are busy with our work.

It is warm here and we already miss the cold weather of Nepal. I wish to share some ideas about the trek and some pictures. I believe that the whole the trek and climbing was very well organized and well paced. Guide “Tilak” is marvelous. He had a good knowledge of the route, surrounding mountains locations, and people. He was helpful through out the trek and sometimes carried my bags for me. We remember your porter “Lok Dal” as a very strong, polite and careful person. The way he cared of my daughter, when she got in to the trouble was excellent. If you keep employing person with these qualities, your organization will thrive and will never go out of business. Please take a good care of them. You can not afford to loose them to another organization.

I have few comments:

  • Meeting at the Kathmandu Air Port, dinner and night out at Kathmandu, and introduction to the trek was excellent.
  • Any hints about the food we should look at while on the trek would be a greatly beneficial. For example I feel that if Gaya avoided meat and diary products at Namche Bazar, she would not get the food poisoning.
  • The guides were very friendly, helpful during the whole trip and set a good pace for our fitness and acclimatisation levels.
  • Visiting Everest View Hotel was worthwhile. We should have stayed for a longer to enjoy it.
  • The rest day in Namche was also good. But I feel that we should have continued to Kumchung next day and rest.
  • The lodges we stayed at were good, except for Tembouche. Food we had at Temboughe was very ordinary. Is it possible to avoid Tembouche and walk up to Pembouche for the night rest?
  • The pacing of the walk was good especially for my age.
  • The way you handle the emergency was excellent. Helicopter arrived in time and the clinic you recommended was excellent.
  • In Overall I could recommend to any one your service. I am not good in writing of references. But if you wish to give anyone my coordination for recommendation, I do not have any issues with it. My Email is ————@rta.nsw.gov.au.

Again thanks for your service. I wish you a good health and prosperous business in future.

Regards
Kamal and Gayathri

Everest Base Camp & Kala Pathar trek in December

February 25, 2009

I did an Everest Base Camp\Kala Pathar trek in December, and wanted to say a few words about the Himalayan Glacier Trekking Ltd. (Kathmandu), the agency I used for my trip. My contact, Naba, was a pleasure to deal with and couldn’t have been more helpful. He provided tons of great information and was a real help with all of my pre-trip planning. This was my first “major” trip, and I was really glad for his assistance. There was no pressure on booking and he was very easy to communicate with. He was especially helpful when my travel arrangements completely fell apart at the last minute due to November craziness with the Bangkok airport. He was flexible and accommodating with my ever-changing flight schedule. I also received the same high quality of service my entire time in Nepal, and he even checked on how I was enjoying the trek while I was on the trail via satellite phone.

Namche Bazar - Everest Region

My guide, Hira, was great to be on the trail with. He provided just enough “supervision,” but allowed me a good amount of freedom as well. He also pushed just enough for us to make fast progress, but it was never out of my comfort zone. He was also very conscious of high I was doing with the altitude. At the tea houses, he always made sure I was taken care of and included me in activities as much as I felt like. He was also able to share a lot of fascinating information about the region while we were trekking. Our Sherpa porter, Bai (Nepalese for little brother) was also great to travel with.

It was a wonderful trip, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use Himalayan Glacier Trekking for another trip. I would also work with Naba and Hira again in a second! If anyone has any questions or would like more information, just let me know.

Namaste and Naya Bersa ko subakamana (happy new year)

The trip was fantastic, everything I was hoping for and more! Aside from your own phenomenal organization, hospitality and exceptional attention to detail – Prakesh and Man were equally as impressive.

Finally Everest Base Camp became a reality this year

On the way to Everest Base Camp

Trekking in the Himalayas has always been a dream of mine. Finally this year it became a reality. It’s nearly a month and half since I got back from Nepal but it is still fresh in my mind. I never get tired of telling friends and family about the trip, and of course showing the photos!. After receiving a recommendation from a friend I contacted Himalayan Glacier Trekking and received a phone call from Naba the next day. I was very impressed by this response and all the follow up emails over the next few months as I got ready for the trek. No matter how trivial my emails were there was always a helpful answer to my questions.

I arrived in Kathmandu a couple of days early but Naba and his team had taken care of everything. pick-up, hotel and sightseeing. The highlight of these ‘rest days’ being the city tour. Our guide had a seemingly endless knowledge for the sites we visited!

Everest Base Camp Trek & Kala Pattar

December 5, 2008

We have been home for 6 weeks now and time we thanked you for our wonderful trip to Nepal. We had a fabulous time on our trek to Everest Base Camp thanks largely to our exceptional Trekking Guide Kapil & his team, Moden, Bilbodur & Bolbodur. They made our trek exceptional. There was always someone looking after us no matter what time of day or where we were on the trek. If not for their care and professionalism we would not have made it to Kala Pattar and experienced the most amazing views of Everest and the surrounding peaks.
