Stunning Trekking Regions in Nepal

Nepal comprising of world’s tallest mountain regions is a haven for adventure trekkers. The Himalayan nation beyond offering the glimpses of cultural diversities is also famous for enjoying spectacular mountain views. The different trekking regions of Nepal are equally stunning and marveling. It is in the sense that while trekking in the most stunning trekking regions a trekker can witness traditional cultural practices, mid-hill villages, river valleys, Himalayan glaciers, and to the most experience the adventurous trekking trails.

Khumbu/Everest Trekking Region

Khumbu is one of the best known trekking regions in Nepal. Apart from Mount Everest (8,848), there are other 8000m peaks in the region, including Lhotse (8,511m) the 4th highest peak, and Cho Oyu (8,201m) the 6th highest peak. With numerous tea houses, lodges and hotels, Khumbu is one of the busiest trekking regions in Nepal. There are many high passes where a trekker can make either a tea house, independent or organized camping trek, with beautiful views of the Himalayan peaks. Likewise, Khumbu is the home of Buddhist people and is rich in Sherpa culture. There are several old monasteries to explore. The Sagarmatha National Park is also located in the region, where a trekker can see alpine flora and fauna.

Kanchanjunga/Makalu Region

Including 12 other peaks over 7000m, Kanchanjunga/Makalu Region is one of the awesome trekking regions in Nepal. Kanchanjunga (8,586m) the world’s 3rd highest mountain is known for the Five Treasures of the Great Snow Range. Likewise, Mt. Makalu (8,48m) is the 5th highest peak in the world. Both the mountain peaks are situated in the northeast of Nepal. When one treks in this mountain region, he or she can see excellent views of Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Jannu, Khambachen, Yalung Khang, Kirat Chuli and several other peaks. The trekking routes pass through many villages of Rai, Limbu, Brahman, Chettri and Sherpas of the eastern Nepal. The flora and fauna found in this region are nowhere to compare.

Annapurna/Dhaulagiri/Manaslu Region

Bounded by the Kali Gandaki Valley (the world’s deepest gorge) in the west and the Marshyangdi on the north and east, Annapurna I (8,091m) is the world’s 10th highest peak. The whole area is one of the busiest trekking regions in Nepal. In the same way, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) is the 7th highest peak in the world. The trekking route to Mt. Dhaulagiri comes with true adventure and excellent mountain views. Likely, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m) is the 8th highest peak in the world, located about 40 miles east of Annapurna. The trekking trails in this region also offer fascinating experiences as the trekking in the region has to cross the Larkya La Pass- one of the most beautiful high passes in Nepal.

Dolpo/Rara-Mugu Region

The whole Dolpo region is a popular destination for trekking in Nepal. It is also the center of the Bön-PO religion. The daily life, religion, culture and landscapes of this region are very similar to that of Tibet. Bordered in the north by the Tibet, most of Dolpo is included in the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Similarly, Rara Lake is Nepal’s largest, and is located in the Western Nepal’s Karnali zone. The lake is at the heart of the Rara National Park, the smallest National Park in Nepal. The most interesting trekking will be experienced in the Nau Lekh – Kala Mula – Rini Moksha region, where trekkers will experience the real nature of the area.

Langtang/Ganesh Himal Region

Langtang is located to the north of Kathmandu, bordering with Tibet. The majority of those who live in the Langtang valley are Tamang. The trekking region is also popular for watching the black bear, the goat-like Himalayan Tahr, monkeys, wild boar, red pandas and a large variety of birds. There are many tea houses, local lodges and hotels, which give options for tea house trekking, independent or organized camping treks. Adding to this, the Ganesh Himal is a sub-range of the Himalaya located northeast of Kathmandu. There are several other peaks in this Himalaya range as well.

Humla – The Hidden Himalaya Region

Humla, the hidden Himalaya region, is sandwiched between the peaks of the Saipal Himal and the Tibetan border. The Humla region is in one of the remotest places on earth. Trekking through this region really provides off the beaten track experience. The exciting region is full of peaceful villages, high mountain passes, clear streams and abundant forest, eternally snow-capped mountains and sweeping valleys. Because of its remoteness, modern development has barely arrived in this hidden Himalayan region. Hence, Humla region is suitable for those trekkers who want to explore an extremely remote and stunning landscape and meet distant communities of Nepal Himalayas.
