Jiri to Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo –Ri

June 28, 2012

In March 2012 we spent three weeks trekking to Gokyo Lakes and back with Himalayan Glacier. While it turned out to be a long trek from Jiri, it proved to a magnificent experience that will remain with us for ever. The views are great and changed so much as you moved from the lower parts through to the Everest region. The track itself was fairly rough, but certainly improved once we got near Lukla. As you would expect, the accommodation was basic, but clean and welcoming. However the accommodation in both Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar exceeded anything that we expected to experience during our stay – this little bit of luxury was appreciated.

There were too many highlights to try and list them all, but reaching Gokyo and looking at Everest in the distance will remain a lasting memory.

TREKKING

TREKKING

From the moment we set foot in Nepal until the time that they farewelled us home, we were taken care of and treated as valued customers by Himalayan Glacier. Our guide (Hira) and porter (Ming) were our constant companions and ensured that while on the trek that all of our needs were catered for. While it was a long hard slog at times, both Hira and Ming encouraged us through until our next stop. It was great being able to trek each day without any worries about where to go or where we would be sleeping and eating. Hira proved to have a good knowledge of the regions that we walked through and ensured that all of our needs were catered for at the places that we stayed.

Having trekked in Nepal before, it was good to leave all of the running around to an organisation that knew what they were doing. We were comfortable with Himalayan Glacier from the outset, and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone considering a trip to Nepal. Our thanks go to all of the staff who played a role in our great adventure.
