Delhi top tourist spot for global travellers: Report

National capital Delhi was the most favoured Indian destination for international travellers followed by the financial hub of Mumbai in the first half of 2013, according to a report.

Goa, the popular beach and party destination, was ranked No. 3 followed by Bengaluru and Chennai at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, according to the latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) report by Hotels.com.

Overall, the list of top 10 destinations for global vacationers was a good mix of major cities and tourist hotspots. The pink city of Jaipur occupied the seventh spot.

South Indian cities of Hyderabad, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram also featured in the top 10, at the sixth, eighth and 10th positions, respectively.

Agra, the land of Taj Mahal, occupied the ninth spot, said the report by the website, a leading provider of hotel accommodation worldwide.

The report revealed that South East Asian destinations dominated the top 10 list of favourite international spots for Indian travellers in the first half of 2013.

Bangkok and Singapore stood first and second followed by Dubai in the third spot. Popular destinations in Thailand for holiday-makers – Pattaya and Phuket – stood at seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

Hong Kong enjoyed the sixth position, while the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur was at No. 10. London, at No. 4, was the only European destination on the list for outbound Indians.

On the other hand, two American cities featured in the list – New York at No. 5 and Las Vegas at No. 9, the report said.
