KATHMANDU: With an aim to promote various regions of Nepal through the medium of art, a non-profit organisation Manang Youth Society organised an art workshop — Fragments of Mustang — from May 24 to June 1 in the Mustang region. A group of Kathmandu based artists travelled through Jomsom, the district Headquarters and villages on the way to Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang in northwest Nepal to participate in the workshop as per a press release issued by one of the participating artists Erina Tamrakar. The other participants included artists Sunita Rana, Bidhata KC, Bipana Maharjan, Puja Maharjan Rajbhandari and photographer Sajana Shrestha .
These artistes interacted with local people and visited various cultural and religious sites of the area. They also witnessed the annual Tenchi festival in Lo Manthang as per the press statement.“Imbibing local culture and visits to omnipresent monasteries, chhortens, and caves has added a new dimension to my work,” the press statement quoted Maharjan as saying.
“The people and the textures of the place are amazing and new” for another artist Maharjan Rajbhandari, who focused on women of Mustang in her works. Rana’s landscapes captured the vast spaces and KC’s paintings highlighted the architecture intrinsic of the arid region, adds the press release.The workshop aimed to expose Nepali artists to the diversity of Nepal and provide a distinct platform to showcase their works. Paintings from the workshop will be exhibited in Kathmandu in autumn.
