Dashain, the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepalese annual calendar
September 30, 2008
Dashain, the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepalese annual calendar, celebrated by the Nepalis of all caste and creed is being observed throughout the country on Tuesday.
The fifteen days of celebration occurs during the bright lunar fortnight ending on the day of the full moon.
Dashain is celebrated with great rejoice, and goddess Durga is worshiped throughout the kingdom as the divine mother goddess.
Dashain commemorates a great victory of the gods over the wicked demons.
The first day of Dashain is called Ghatasthapana, which literally means pot establishing. On this day the kalash, (holy water vessel) symbolising goddess Durga often with her image embossed on the side is placed in the prayer room.
The Ghatasthapana ritual is performed at a certain auspicious moment determined by the astrologers. At that particular moment the priest intones a welcome, requesting goddess Durga to bless the vessel with her presence.
On the Ghatasthapana, literally means pot establishing, people sow seeds of `Jamara’ that includes shoots of rice, maize and barley on earthen pots covered with cow dung and soil mixed with sand brought from the holy rivers in their prayer room called ‘Dashain Ghar’. Read more

You will have a great hike with himalayan Glacier
September 12, 2008
Namaste !!!
You will have a great hike with himalayan Glacier. Our guide was named Dindi Sherpa and was very attenitive and alway’s put safety first. He also got the most effort out of us and helped in our success… He was a mountaineering guide so I think you would have to add one of the hiking peakes to your list (Island Peak) most likely for his services. We had a guide(Dindi) that spoke great english and two porters for the 3 of us hiking. The program basically was every morning we gave the porters our belongings to carry and we each carried a day pack that was probobly around 5-8 pounds for day use. You would carry water, toilet paper, maybe some candy bars and some lighter or heavier clothing rain gear depending…

Thank you Himalayanglacier for organising our trip and for your friendly and helpful attitude, everything from our first contact before the trip to dropping us off at the airport worked perfectly. |
And thank you to HGT Staffs for your excellent guiding during the entire trek and for your friendly and helpful attitude. Our 13 days on the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek were a fantastic experience. The trek was a magnificent nature experience with rice terraces, rododhendron forests, Langor monkeys, waterfalls, hot springs, amazing mountain views and much much more - amazing!! It was very good that we always could set our own pace with numerous breaks for water or taking photos. |
Unsere Traumtour im Himalaya “Dhaulagiri Circuit mit Thapa Peak”
September 8, 2008

Spectacular trip to India & Bhutan
September 7, 2008
Naba: Now that we have settled back from our trip to India and Bhutan, I wanted to provide you with more detailed comments. First, we had a spectacular trip, and I truly appreciate the detail and attention provided by you and your associates during each stage of our trip. Everyone was extremely attentive, responsive to details, and well coordinated. The email communications at each stage were very helpful and appreciated.
A few detailed comments and observations:
- The Kozy Inn served its purpose of being half way to the Taj Mahal, although it is a worn property. I would not select it again.
- The Intercontinental in Delhi was very nice, and it had an amazing breakfast.
- Our guide in Agra, Atul Parmar, was excellent, and I would highly recommend him.
- Our Delhi guide, R. K. Rathore, was very attentive, well informed and helpful. He is not as erudite as Atul Parmar, but he is very well informed.
- Your team in Delhi was great and very accommodating.
- Our guide for Darjeeling, R. Sandeep Singh Khati, was wonderful! He could not have done more to make us feel welcome and to make arrangements for the most outstanding “tea tour” that we could have had. His personal contact with the owner of Makaibari Tea Estate made for the most spectacular and memorable two day visit there. The Windamere hotel was also spectacular! Sandeep has convinced us that we should return to do some trekking in Sikkim, which we will consider for another trip.
- I have been reflecting on the transition into Bhutan. If I traveled again from Darjeeling to Bhutan, I am not sure I would do it by road or if I would consider driving back to Bagdora, flying to Delhi and then to Paro. There would have been no way to anticipate the landslide that blocked the road from Phuntsholing to Paro, and there was a certain interest in the ride through Assam and back into Bhutan to circumvent that problem (albeit, 17 hours), but that is a wearing journey.
- Our guide in Bhutan, Ugyen Tshering, was absolutely superb and could not have been more attentive.
- Note, the Druk hotel in Phuntsholing was under extensive renovation, and the rooms we had were sub-par and in desperate need of renovation. On the other hand, the food was extremely good. Most of the other hotels in Bhutan were nice, with some being better than others.
In general, it was a spectacular and very memorable journey, and I thank you for all of your efforts on our behalf.
MY NEXT REQUEST:
Naba:
You know of my interest in doing a trip to Nepal and trekking to Everest base camp. I would like to begin thinking about this trip, although we will most likely do the trip in May 2010. I know it is early, but I need to start to develop the specifics, and my wife is particularly interested in the types of accommodations. Can you start to send me some general information on the available accommodations along the way to Everest base camp (I understand that if we stay at base camp, which I am inclined to do, that we would camp there).
Thanks again for a great trip! I would be pleased to serve as a reference for Himalayan Glacier Trekking and for you personally. Best regards. Jay
